This holiday season, visitors to Milledgeville, Georgia, can experience the city’s historic landmarks, gardens, and seasonal displays in vivid, breathtaking color with Milledgeville in Full Color. This initiative provides free EnChroma Color Blind Glasses for borrowing at the Milledgeville Visitor's Center and participating attractions, giving more people the chance to enjoy the city’s vibrant colors during the holiday season and throughout the year.
Color vision deficiency (commonly called color blindness) affects about 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women, most often as Protanomaly or Deuteranomaly, which make reds and greens difficult to distinguish. EnChroma glasses use advanced optical filters to reduce the overlap of these color signals, enabling the eyes to send clearer information to the brain and allowing wearers to perceive a broader, more balanced spectrum of color.
With EnChroma glasses, visitors can enjoy Milledgeville’s natural beauty, historic homes, seasonal light displays, and artistic exhibits in enhanced color, making each visit more vivid and memorable. Adult and youth glasses are available year-round at the Milledgeville Visitor Center and participating sites, including Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion, Lockerly Arboretum, Milledgeville-Baldwin County Allied Arts, and Andalusia Farm.

Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion
Completed in 1839, Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion served as the residence for Georgia’s state executives when Milledgeville was the state capital. Restored to its 1851 appearance, the Mansion features period-accurate furnishings and decor. During the holidays, the Mansion hosts Christmas at the Mansion, decorated with fresh greenery, fruit garlands, and a stunning 30-foot Christmas tree in the rotunda. Visitors wearing EnChroma glasses may notice enhanced separation between reds and greens, making ornaments, greenery, and candlelight more distinct. Beyond the holidays, the glasses reveal subtle tones in upholstery, gilded accents, and wallpapers, enriching the experience of this historic home year-round. The Mansion is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with tours starting at the top of each hour.
EnChroma glasses are available upon request at Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion Gift Shop.

Lockerly Arboretum
Lockerly Arboretum spans 50 acres of gardens, trails, and scenic landscapes just south of downtown. Its natural beauty shifts with the seasons, from bright spring azaleas to fiery autumn foliage. During the holidays, Lockerly in Lights illuminates the gardens with festive displays. EnChroma glasses help users distinguish overlapping red and green tones in both natural and artificial displays. During Lockerly in Lights, guests may experience more vivid reds, clearer greens, and enhanced contrast in the illuminated designs. After the holiday season, the glasses enhance seasonal foliage and garden landscapes, revealing subtle color variations in spring blooms, summer greenery, and fall leaves. Lockerly in Lights is open on Fridays and Saturdays from Friday, November 21st, to Saturday, December 20th, for an evening walk-through experience. Specialty drive-through nights will take place on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 27th, and Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24th.
EnChroma glasses are available upon request at the Lockerly Arboretum office.

Milledgeville-Baldwin County Allied Arts

EnChroma glasses are available at the John Marlor House, where most exhibits are displayed. Visitors with color vision deficiency may notice greater contrast between tones, improved clarity in the artwork, and more defined color transitions. Exhibits change throughout the year, allowing guests to return and enjoy new displays with enhanced color perception, making each visit uniquely vibrant.

Andalusia Farm
Andalusia Farm, home and inspiration to Southern Gothic writer Flannery O’Connor, provides a window into her life and creative world. Guests can explore the farmhouse, original furnishings, and the Andalusia Interpretive Center, which houses artifacts from the O’Connor family and earlier residents. EnChroma glasses help users distinguish red and green tones across the property, enhancing the visibility of details such as the vivid feathers of the peacocks, the red of the farmhouse's roof, and the rich contrast of Flannery's bold artwork. Whether visiting during the quiet winter months or amid spring and summer blooms, the glasses enhance the natural and historic beauty of Andalusia.
