Bone Cemetery
ABOUT
ABOUT
Bone Cemetery, located in a historically black neighborhood north of downtown Milledgeville, was established in the 1940s to meet the community's need for an African American burial ground. Named after Russell G. Bone, who initiated its creation, the cemetery's lots were sold by his family until they were all claimed. Today, with approximately 1,750 graves, Bone Cemetery is maintained by the City of Milledgeville. Notable gravesites include Sallie Ellis Davis (Row H, Lot 8, Grave 1), a prominent figure in black education in Milledgeville, and many local veterans.
