Deep Roots - 2024

Saturday, October 18

If you missed the evening walking tour, you can start your Saturday morning with the Ghosts of Milledgeville Morning Walking Tour at 9:00 a.m. before the festival begins. At 10:00 a.m., the Deep Roots Festival officially opens, filling downtown Milledgeville with artisan vendors, a kids’ area, an antique car show, and live local music. The morning offers a slower pace with fewer crowds, making it a great time for families to enjoy the festival. Once the sun begins to set, the afternoon and evening bring a livelier atmosphere as the streets fill with visitors watching college football games, enjoying live local music, and restaurants and food trucks serving a variety of bar food and sweet treats.

Headlining the festival is Milledgeville’s own Logan Crosby, known for his bold Southern pop sound and appearances on ABC’s Claim to Fame. Joining Logan are The Restless Natives, Macon’s tribute to The Allman Brothers Band with Milledgeville’s Jon Joiner on drums; internationally recognized reggae from Dean Brown & Dubshak Band; and a special one-time set from Milledgeville-based Shaquille Wright and The Mocals, celebrated for their soulful saxophone. Jazz fans can enjoy Georgia College and State University’s talented musicians, while local groups—including the Baldwin High Theatre & Singers, Oak Hill Middle Chorus, Midway Hills Academy Drill Team, John Milledgeville Academy Chorus, Apa Steppaz, and the Georgia Military College Color Guard—round out the lineup.

For Georgia sports fans, the University of Georgia vs. Ole Miss game will be broadcast on a large projector screen on Hancock Street, right in the heart of the festival, so no one has to pick between game day excitement and Deep Roots fun. Cheer on the Dawgs alongside fellow fans, then keep the celebration going as the headlining concert takes over the main stage, businesses stay open late, and food and drinks continue to flow.

In addition to the festival, visitors can enjoy a variety of seasonal activities. Just outside the festival area, the Milli Chili Cook-Off will be dishing out hearty bowls for tasting. Offering a memorable experience for families, The Pumpkin Patch at Woodland Acres at Robbins Farm is just a short drive from downtown and will be open on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
