Woods Museum at Lockerly Arboretum

ABOUT

The Woods Museum is located in a former tenant house on the property of Lockerly Arboretum. The Woods Museum features a reptile exhibit, an enormous cross-cut slab of a 300-year-old Taxodium distichum (Bald Cypress) as well as a comprehensive permanent exhibit showcasing 13 hardwood trees.

The Woods Museum is home to Teedo, the ball python (non native); Maize, the corn snake; Sparky, the eastern box turtle; and Wuji, another slider. Lockerly Arboretum is permitted by Georgia DNR to house native reptiles for educational purposes. The arboretum works on the misconception that many reptiles and amphibians, such as snakes, are "bad", but rather play a vital role in our ecosystem.

The Woods Museum is free and open to the public Monday-Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm and on Saturdays in March - November from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
