From Union Recorder, staff reports

Local businesses Cogentes Inc. and Shrimp Boat are the recipients of the eighth round of BOOST grant awards.

Georgia-based IT support provider Cogentes Inc. will utilize the funds for installing a custom sign to feature business information as well as that of the tenants subleasing the office space. Shrimp Boat is a local, family-owned restaurant that has been in business for almost 50 years. Shrimp Boat owners intend on using the grant money to purchase a new pressure washer to aid in cleaning the vent hood filters and a leaf blower for upkeep of the parking lot.

“The BOOST grant is ever-growing and the BOOSTers who have given their own money are voting to help some wonderful small businesses in our local community. This is something that people can really get on board with and actually see the difference they are making in our community,” Main Street Director Carlee Schulte said.

BOOST is a Downtown Development Authority/Milledgeville Main Street program designed to assist local businesses with funding needs. The program awards small businesses with grants up to $1,000 for a wide range of business needs. All small businesses are encouraged to apply.

Since the BOOST programs inception in 2013 the BOOST program has awarded 18 BOOST grants totaling almost $16,000.
