ABOUT

ABOUT

Explore the exhibit "Fast Fading, a History of Central State Hospital" at the Georgia's Old Capital Heritage Center at the Depot. Only made possible through the efforts of local photographer, historian, and now museum curator, Jessica Whitehead. This is the first exhibit to open at the new location on the Central State Hospital campus, and Ms. Whitehead demonstrates a unique ability to combine history - the collection of pictures, artifacts, equipment, personal items, and client art - with place. The "Seeking Asylum" photography exhibit captures Central State Hospital through the lens of Jessica Whitehead's camera. The photographs serve as a poignant and artistic representation of the state of mental health treatment in this country and speak to the multifaceted history of the hospital itself. A not to be missed look at the inside of areas no longer accessible to the public. The exhibit at The Depot is surrounded by the mostly deserted buildings of the once thriving center for treatment of mental health issues and developmental disabilities. From start to finish, this is a moving walk through CSH history. Admission is $10 per person. CSH employees receive a discounted rate of $8 per person. Groups of 10 or more can enjoy admission at $7 per person. The exhibit is open Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or by appointment at (478)453-1803 or thedepotga@gmail.com.
