Allied Arts will host an exhibit featuring the art of Valton Murray. The exhibition will run from June 11 - August 11. Mr. Murray, a native of Mesena, Georgia, has been creating art since he was young. After being diagnosed with polio as a child, Mr. Murray took up drawing and sketching to pass the time during his hospital stays. He now creates folk-art masterpieces as has been awarded wins at art shows across the United States, including Best of Show, Honorable Mention, and Distinguished Merit. Some of Mr. Murray's works now reside in the Smithsonian Museum. Mr. Murray's works feature vivid colors, hand-mixed by Murray, and are framed in antique wooden frames. His unique style captures memories from his childhood home and the South. Mr. Murray's works have been featured on greeting cards, postage stamps, and in a children's novel, titled Tale of the Old Maypop Tree.
There is no admission charge to view exhibits in the gallery. The gallery is open Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
