A Georgia War Veterans Exhibit (in collaboration with GMC) is a unique art collaboration project between Allied Arts, local Georgia War Veterans, and GMC Prep School.
The project started a few months ago when Major Paige Barlow took her GMC art students to meet and begin painting portraits of about twenty local veterans. Student artists are using skills Major Barlow taught them to capture their interpretation of the veteran’s likeness’ with acrylic on canvas.
The project started as a way of using art to study, honor, and recognize veterans and it evolved to include the veterans themselves in the actual art-making process. Allied Arts was able to bring local artist Stan Stickland to the Georgia War Veterans Home for several sessions with the veterans to teach and guide the veterans through their painting process; their work will include a variety of subjects.
The completed work for the project will be on display from August 4th to September 7th at the Marlor House, located in downtown Milledgeville. A opening reception will be held on August 4th, from 1-3 p.m. The reception and exhibit is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be provided.
