Spend Arbor Day at Lockerly Arboretum with special guest, Parker Andes from Biltmore Estates!
Parker Andes, Director of Horticulture at Biltmore Estates will be at Lockerly for Arbor Day to speak about Biltmore design intent and how to apply those lessons in your own backyard.
Parker was introduced to plants and gardens by his father-who at age 84 is still planting orange trees in his back yard. Growing up in West Virginia, his family had what today would be called mixed borders. His father used snap peas as the edging to his Dahlia beds, and cucumbers and clematis sprawled together through junipers.
In college, Parker first focused on pomology until two summer internships at theme parks, one at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, led to a change of heart, as well as his first job when he graduated.
During the course of his career, Parker found his niche in public gardens and with gardeners, working at Callaway Gardens, Longwood Gardens and Busch Gardens before arriving at Biltmore in 2000.

This is a rare opportunity to learn from the horticulturalist responsible for the maintenance of an 8,000-acre National Historic Landmark property, designed by Fredric Law Olmsted.
