Join First Presbyterian Church of Milledgeville as it commemorates 200 years of worship, service, and community. Founded on June 11, 1826, with just six charter members, the church has grown into a lasting presence in Milledgeville, shaped by generations of leadership, music, and ministry. This bicentennial celebration honors that legacy while looking ahead to the future through a series of meaningful services, concerts, and gatherings open to all.

Bicentennial Kickoff – January 4, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Epiphany worship with communion
    A welcoming start to the bicentennial year, featuring youth-led elements and a time of fellowship.

Palm/Passion Sunday – March 29, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Worship
    Featuring new service music by composer David Hamilton, preparing the congregation for Holy Week.

Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans Service – April 12, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Worship
    A celebration of Scottish heritage with bagpipes, hymns, and the Blessing of the Tartans. 

Milledgeville Singers in Concert – April 26, 2026

  • 4:00 p.m. Concert
    The Singers Guild presents selections from Clyde Tipton’s "Let Justice Roll." Free and open to the public.

Our Journey Begins – May 3, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Worship
    A frontier-themed service featuring Libby Lounsbury’s playlet "From These Beginnings," with communion. 

Musical Heritage Service – May 10, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Worship
    A service spanning two centuries of sacred music with guest musicians, choir, organ, and a hymn-sing. Reception follows.

Faith in Action Service – May 17, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Worship
    Celebrating the church’s community impact through stories, prayer, and song. Fellowship with snacks follows.

Music of Clyde Tipton Service – May 24, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Worship
    Honoring the music and legacy of Clyde Tipton, with an opportunity to visit with his family at the reception.

Looking Toward the Future – May 31, 2026

    A Trinity Sunday service led by youth, followed by refreshments and conversation in Fellowship Hall.

Honoring the Journey – June 7, 2026

    A reflective service tracing the congregation’s story through milestone moments, music, prayer, and communion. Reception follows.

Bicentennial Open House – June 11, 2026

  • 6:30 p.m. Bell Choir Performance (Monticello Presbyterian Church)
  • 7:30 p.m. Conversation with historian Bob Wilson
    An evening of community and discovery with music, storytelling, and refreshments.

Bicentennial Service – June 14, 2026

  • 11:00 a.m. Commemorative Worship
  • Lunch to follow
    A culminating celebration marking 200 years with special guests and a shared meal.
