About Bobbi:

Bobbi F. Johnson is a mixed-media artist based in Sparta, Georgia. Working primarily in acrylic, texture mediums, and layered mark-making, she creates emotionally charged abstract works that explore themes of transformation, resilience, identity, faith, and personal growth. Born in the Philippines and raised in Georgia, Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from the University of North Georgia with a concentration in ceramics. Her work combines a sculptural approach to surface with intuitive painting processes, resulting in richly textured compositions that invite both visual and emotional exploration. Inspired by the complexities of the human experience, her richly textured paintings navigate the tensions between struggle and renewal, chaos and grace, fragility and strength. Through layers of color, texture, and gesture, she seeks to create visual narratives that speak to the universal human experience of change. Johnson's work has been featured in solo exhibitions including Perspective: A Journey Through Mental Health (2024), An Exploration (2024), and The Space Between: A Year in Review (2025). She is the recipient of the Roy C. Moore Scholarship, the Hugh M. Mills, Jr. Scholarship, the Faculty Choice Award, and the Purchase Award from the University of North Georgia. Her current body of work, Becoming, continues her exploration of transformation, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys of growth, healing, and self-discovery.

Artist Statement:

"Becoming is a collection of works that explores transformation, resilience, and the ongoing process of growth. Through layers of texture, color, and mark-making, these paintings reflect the tension between what was, what is, and what is still unfolding. Created during a season of significant change, the work examines themes of healing, identity, faith, loss, renewal, and self-discovery. Some pieces suggest excavation and reflection, while others embrace movement, release, and possibility. Together, they speak to the ways we are shaped by both struggle and grace. Rather than presenting transformation as a destination, Becoming embraces it as a continual process. Each painting serves as a reminder that growth is rarely linear, and that beauty can emerge through uncertainty, disruption, and change. My hope is that viewers find space within these works to reflect on their own journeys—the moments that have challenged them, changed them, and ultimately contributed to who they are becoming."
