Milledgeville officials announced the city will be celebrating "Georgia Cities Week" April 20-27, 2013. The city will be holding a few events throughout the week, including a clean-up day, a photo contest, and trivia! The theme of this year's Georgia Cities Week is "Where the Action is," showcasing how cities, through the services they provide and the quality of life they create, transform lives and business.

Milledgeville Mayor, Richard Bentley, is in support of the Georgia Cities Week celebration. "We're very proud of our city and the services we provide that make it attractive to residents and visitors," said Bentley. "Cities provide the infrastructure for growing businesses, quality of life for individuals and families and are a gathering spot for people throughout the region."

Events planned for the week are:

                Saturday April 20- Downtown Clean-up day from 8am-11am (meet on the steps of City Hall)

                Monday April 22 - Friday April 26- Milledgeville Trivia on Facebook for various prizes, like us at  Milledgeville Main Street

                Monday April 22- Milledgeville Fact Sheet given to 6th grade students in Baldwin County Schools

                Tuesday April 23- ‘Capture the Action' Photo Contest Winner Announced (see below for more details)

                Wednesday April 24- Eggs & Issues: State of the City hosted by The Chamber at Crockett's          7:30am-9pm ($10 per person)

Cities across Georgia will be celebrating Georgia Cities Week, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 510 member cities.

In honor of Georgia's Cities Week Milledgeville Main Street is launching its very first photo contest. Contestants will ‘Capture the Action' of Milledgeville. The contest is all about seeing Milledgeville the way others do and what they find beautiful about our community.

Georgia Cities Week gives cities an opportunity to share information about the valuable services cities provide to resident and how cities positively impact their quality of life.

Entering in the ‘Capture the Action' photo contest is easy! All you have to do is take a picture of something Milledgeville. The picture could be anything you find special and beautiful about our community, people, landmarks, nature, etc.  Once you have a photo all you have to do is email it to the Main Street office with a short description of your photo. 

The winner of the Capture the Action photo contest will receive a framed certificate and a copy of their photo displayed in City Hall with acknowledgement to the photographer.

Please send all entries to Include your first and last name along with a phone number and a short description describing your photo.  All entries must be turned in by April 19th at 5:00pm.
