Milledgeville CVB Director Appointed to State Tourism Board

 Milledgeville, GA...June 5, 2013...Governor Nathan Deal recently announced 27 new appointments to boards throughout the state of Georgia.  Jane Sowell, executive director of the Milledgeville-Baldwin Convention and Visitors Bureau, was selected as a new appointee to the Georgia Tourism Foundation Board.

 The mission of the Georgia Tourism Foundation, under the administration of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, is to increase the economic strength of Georgia by promoting tourism through public/private partnerships. The current board consists of representatives of 10 Georgia Authorities, DNR and GDEcD (Chair), seven appointed Private sector members and 15 non-voting advisors.

 Sowell has served as the Executive Director of the Milledgeville CVB for the past 14 years. She currently serves as president of the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus and sits on the board of Trustees for Georgia's Lake Country. She is past president of Georgia's Historic Heartland Travel Association, Georgia's Antebellum Trail Association, the 441 Heritage Highway Association and the Balls Ferry Historical Park Association. Sowell served on the Advisory Board for the J. Bunting School of Business at Georgia College and State University and Georgia Military College Foundation. She is a 2005 graduate of Leadership Georgia and received the Larry Allen Award from the state of Georgia for Excellence in Tourism. Jane and her husband, Ed, have three children and six grandchildren. They reside in Milledgeville.
