"First Friday" April 1st: Follin' Around Downtown March 29, 2011
The rain will dry up and the sun will come out for the third "First Friday" in downtown Milledgeville April 1st. The collaborative efforts of The First Friday's Committee, consisting of The City Milledgeville Main Street/ DDA, Arts in the Ville and Partners for Progress: Business Development is bringing even more entertainment and excitement to town this month.
Basia Irland is the featured artist this month and will be hosted by Digital Bridges. Sponsored by Georgia College's department of Art and department of Biological and Environmental, her art is inspired by nature and emphasizes communal efforts to protect our beautiful waterways. Video from her public event "Ice Books and Clay Diatoms Launch" will be on display at Digital Bridges on 6:00 - 8:00.
Georgia College has teamed up with three local restaurants, Metropolis, Aubri Lanes, and Amici's to offer free Macon Symphony ticket vouchers for diners who eat before 6:30 on Friday. The concert starts at 7:30 at the Russell auditorium. For concert goers, bring your program to Metropolis, Aubri Lanes, and Amici's after the concert for specials Friday night only.
As April 1st will be the last day of the week of Spring break for many local students, it seems fitting that art from kids from several local schools will be on display throughout town. Weather permitting, there will be a number of outdoor activities including: Slice, a Motown & R&B group; Firyali (African Dance); Art As an Agent for Change poetry slam; Gary Spillers book signing; Daniel McDonald-DJ; Redwing Band at Harrolds; Art for Arts Sake will do Face painting; and there will be a Kids Zone with bounce houses, popcorn and cotton candy at Chops.
The focus of First Fridays is to celebrate the diversity of art in Milledgeville: painting, drawing, ceramics, music, theatre, photography, literature, culinary and so much more. Downtown merchants will be participating by inviting artists to display their talents in their businesses. Anyone needing more details is encouraged to ask a participating sponsor or call Carlee Schulte, Interim Director of Main Street, email@example.com
