For Immediate Release:
First "First Friday" Features HeArts in the Ville
With less than a week to go, Milledgeville downtown merchants are preparing for the First "First Friday" event. So far, over forty businesses have stated that they will be participating. Most have made specific plans for the evening inviting artists of all types to join them in welcoming the community downtown. Examples of a few include Harrold's Tuxedos who will have live music played by the group Redwing and across the street Digital Bridges will have story tellers, Jeannette Vaughn and Annie D. with Red Road Alliance. Kiroshima will feature manga inspired art by Maria Amado Fontenot while Pig-in-the-Pit will feature the photography of Maryllis Wolfgang.
Signs will begin appearing in the windows of downtown business that will be participating sponsors of this monthly event. Some businesses will also be competing in a window decorating contest. The windows will be judged for creativity, originality, impact, and integration of the theme "HeArts in the Ville". Each month will have a new theme.
Playing on the theme, Danielle Fields Photography will have a Love Shack Photo Booth with fun props. The Metropolis Café will host the Flamingo Royale Band, the Oconee Outfitters will be showing the stained glass art work of Dave Groseclose. The 42nd Floor will auctioning off signed first-edition t-shirts featuring the designs of artists at Creative Expressions. The auction is an effort to raise money for the "Shirts for Art's Sake" project with proceeds going to a local public school's art department. These are just a sampling of the artists that will be featured downtown February fourth. Everyone is invited to the family friendly event.
Downtown merchants will be staying open until 8:00 or later allowing time for everyone to stroll through the participating sponsors to enjoy the wide variety of artistic talents. "First Fridays" is a collaborative effort of the Arts in the Ville, the Partners for Progress: Business Development, The City of Milledgeville, and Main Street. Anyone needing more details is encouraged to ask a participating sponsor or call Carlee Schulte, Interim Director of Main Street, firstname.lastname@example.org
