FOR IMMEDIATE RLEASE

CASH MOB TO INVADE LOCAL DOWNTOWN BUSINESS

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. ¬¬-- The Milledgeville Main Street First Friday Committee and ShopLocalMilledgeville.com have partnered to coordinate the first Cash Mob event in the Milledgeville area. The Cash Mob is scheduled during the May First Friday event on May 4th at 6:30pm.

Modeled after the ‘flash mob' concept, Cash Mobs have become a popular trend aimed at supporting locally-owned businesses. The Cash Mob will not sing and dance but instead will gather at a downtown merchant to spend money.

The idea for the local Cash Mob during First Friday was originated by Donna Collins. Donna is the downtown BB&T Branch Vice-President and also serves on the First Friday Committee.

Collins explained, "I was looking online and ran across an article about Cash Mobs and thought it would be a great thing to implement in Milledgeville and during First Friday."

The goal of the cash mob is to promote spending at locally owned businesses. Anyone can participate by bringing $10 or more to spend at the chosen business to give a quick surge of sales to help our local economy.

Tommy Cook, program developer for the Shop Local Milledgeville campaign stated, "Cash mobs are a great way to show your support for locally owned businesses by letting them know how much they mean to us as a community. It only takes a few dollars each from those participating to make a large impact on a small business."
"If we are successful we would like to hold Cash Mobs during future First Fridays. It is important for the businesses to receive support from the community and it's a great way to meet new people and have fun!" said Main Street Director Carlee Schulte.

The Cash Mob location will be chosen during a random drawing on the Tuesday before First Friday to give the business ample time to prepare for the Mob. Main Street and Shop Local Milledgeville will make the location announcement next Thursday. Stay tuned...
