Congratulations to the Milledgeville-Baldwin Convention & Visitors Bureau and Milledgeville Main Street on receiving a win at the GACVB Winter Meeting Best Ideas Competition. The Milledgeville duo took home a win for the Local Awareness Campaign - Hometown Celebration.
The Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus holds an annual Winter Meeting offering fantastic speakers, engaging sessions and great networking opportunities with Georgia's tourism industry. The GACVB Best Ideas Competition was held in conjunction with the Winter Meeting, February 23-25, 2015 in Valdosta. The competition is designed to recognize and reward creative excellence and effectiveness in marketing, advertising, sales, promotional campaigns, as well as management techniques. GACVB Best Idea Competition entries must have originated within a GACVB Member Bureau and could have been developed in-house or with an agency.
Milledgeville's Hometown Celebration was a communitywide effort established to recognize and congratulate the town in receiving the prestigious 2014 Great American Main Street Award. This nationwide award recognized Milledgeville as one of the finest downtown areas in America.
On August 15, 2014 just shy of shouting from the rooftops, locals, the region and state shared in the joy of applauding Milledgeville as a great place to shop, dine, visit, play and stay. The 100 block of West Hancock Street was closed to thru traffic and opened to pedestrians to hang out and enjoy live music from the band Reunion. An estimated 2,000 community members gathered for the evening of fun. The Rotary Club of Milledgeville provided activities for kids including corn hole, face paintings and hula hooping. Many businesses also stayed open late and offered wonderful specials. The Convention and Visitors Bureau debuted the new trolley, Milly, offering free rides around beautiful historic downtown Milledgeville. Milledgeville Main Street and community partners also took the time to recognize other national winners in Milledgeville with a Parade of Champions.
The hashtag iloveMilly was created to promote the Hometown Celebration event as well as become the voice for the locals, visitors and lovers of Milledgeville. Today, the hashtag has over 1,100 photos associated on Instagram and is continued to be used to give a glimpse of everything wonderful Milledgeville has.
