Historic Trolley Tours

The Milledgeville guided trolley tour includes rotating visits to the Old State Capitol, c. 1807, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, c. 1841, Lockerly Hall, c. 1839, and the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House, c. 1825.  The trolley is available Monday - Friday at 10:00 am and Saturday at 2:00 pm. The cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for children 6-13. Children 5 and under are free. All tours begin at the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Tour stops vary daily.

Milledgeville Marketplace

A Downtown Farmers Market and a Milledgeville Main Street Project, opens on Tuesday, May 4th and is scheduled to run through November 2010. The market will be held every Tuesday, 4pm - 7pm, in the lot across from Suntrust Bank on Hancock St/Hwy 22.  This will be an upscale market with Georgia Made, Georgia Grown products! For more information, please contact the Mainstreet office at 478-414-4014. 

They are also actively seeking produce and craft vendors! Local growers with Georgia-grown produce and artisans with Georgia-made products are asked to contact the market to complete an application form. For more information on becoming a vendor, contact the Mainstreet office at 478-414-4014.

"Labor Behind the Veil" tours at the Old Governor's Mansion

A historically documented tour, "Labor Behind the Veil: The History of Slaves and Free Persons at Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion 1839-1868," provides mansion visitors a glimpse of the working lives of men and women who lived and worked on the mansion grounds.

The tour researched and developed by mansion director Jim Turner, assistant curator Matt Davis  and Deitrah Taylor was years in the making and included reading historic letters, ledgers and documents to piece together the workings of the mansion.

By the end of the tour, visitors should understand issues of race and sex in the Antebellum South and the governors' political views about slavery, furthering the mission of the Old Governor's Mansion Historic House Museum. "The Collections Tour" at the Old Governor's Mansion

FOCUS:  The Collections Tour, hosted by the Mansion Curator, provides visitors with an opportunity to hear an in-depth discussion of the Mansion's varied material and textile collections, the process of building the collection following the recent $9.5 million dollar restoration of the structure, and culminating in the methodologies employed in locating both original and period appropriate pieces and materials for display within the museum.

The program will center on specific rooms of the structure and if you have ever been interested in learning about antiques and the tenants of historic preservation, then this is a program that you don't want to miss!

Reservations are required to participate and can be made by calling the Mansion offices at 478-445-4545.  Reservations are due the day before each program.

Toddler Time at the Mary Vinson Memorial Library

 Every Tuesday enjoy "Toddler Time" at Mary Vinson memorial Library starting at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 18 months to 3 years. Toddler time is approximately thirty minutes and generally includes a book reading, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, a video, and a puppet show. 

Also keep an eye out for events such as movies and special readings throughout the year!
